holiday cottage location
Wakefield is surrounded by unspoilt countryside, just outside the village of West Linton and only 16 miles from Edinburgh. The house has extensive gardens including a peaty burn and great views over open farmland to the surrounding hills. A real home from home.
West Linton itself has a good range of shops and facilities including a pub, cafe, large village green and children's play area. There are also two golf courses in the immediate vicinity, one of which is only a mile from the house on the way to the village. There is lots of great walking, literally on your doorstep as well as the surrounding villages and market towns to explore.
Should you decide to visit Scotland's lovely capital city during your stay, yet avoid any traffic and parking problems, then buses pass regularly through the village. On the way, you can make a small diversion to view Roslin Chapel, well worth a visit even before it shot to fame courtesy of Dan Brown.
To the south, you have all the Scottish Borders to explore, with more opportunities for wonderful walking, for world class mountain biking, riding and exploring a host of old Scottish keeps and castles. Another must see, over to the west, is The World Heritage Site at New Lanark, together with the spectacular falls of Clyde. And Glasgow, of course is always well worth a visit.
